| What is DupeDel? | |
| DupeDel is a program which scans selected
folders for duplicate files, and deletes them. It can also be set up to
delete all of particular types of files from the selected folders.
DupeDel was originally conceived for use by people who frequent the Usenet news areas of the Internet and download files from there. As anyone with experience here can tell you, there are a lot of duplicate postings. If you use an automated news reader which automatically downloads files, this can result in a lot of "wasted" space on your drive due to the duplication of files. DupeDel was designed to scan these files, identify files which are identical (the exact same content, regardless of name), and remove them - leaving you with a single copy of each file, and a significant amount of additional disk space. DupeDel can also be set to delete all files of specific types in the scanned folders. For example, if you know that files called "Cash Now.TXT" are always junk, you could enter that file name (or even a partial file name, such as "Cash*.TXT"), and these files would be automatically be deleted, whether they were duplicated or not. Doing these tasks by hand can be very time consuming (on the order of hours, sometimes days). DupeDel, on the other hand, can do this in minutes (depending on the number of files being checked, of course). |

| Who would use DupeDel? | |
| As indicated in my example above, this program is ideal for people who frequent Usenet newsgroups. However, it is also useful for people who, for any reason, may accumulate duplicate files which they would like to manage. | |
| Can DupeDel be used get rid of unneeded DLL files? | |
| No. DupeDel is not an uninstall utility, and cannot substitute for one. Removing DLL files is a difficult and risky business, and one that is fraught with the possibility of error (and thus of system problems). You should never attempt to use DupeDel against program folders, and especially not against your Windows folder. Doing so may cause your system to no longer function correctly, and may require you to reinstall both Windows and your applications. Support questions concerning recovering from this operation will not receive answers. | |
| Where can I get it, and how much will it cost me? | |
| You can download an evaluation copy of DupeDel
here. Note that the evaluation copy is not
crippled or limited in any way, other than that it displays a "This

than these, there are no nag screens or pop-ups while using the program,
nor any limitations on the features you can access.
To purchase a fully registered copy (which will have no notices at startup, free minor version upgrades, and will entitle you to full technical support, you can find a registration form here, or you can contact us for complete information.
